Philip Caskey that is, who played the Strand Course at Portstewart in seven better than his handicap of 17 would suggest, and won the Montagu Cup with 43 points. Just like the Translink busses he drives, you wait ages for points and they all come at once! His day started very well as he birdied the first two holes for eight points. A couple of slips at five and seven reminded him of how things are normally but Philip recovered well and finished the nine with 21 points. No more slip ups coming home, just a series of two and three pointers, saw him claim another 21 points for his 43 point winning total.

P McCarter was second, some three points behind, on 40 points. Good steady scoring from Paul with only one blank, the ninth, restricting his score to 17 for the first half. Four three pointers started the back nine however and this form was maintained, albeit with one point gained at 14, as Paul gathered 23 coming back. This back nine score pushed Dan Henry out of the placings and into top spot in the low section. Danís 40 points were weighted towards the front nine, with a birdie four at the long fourth grabbing him four points, with 21 as his front nine total. One point at ten pegged the 6 handicapper back but a great recovery came at the par five fourteenth when he knocked a putt for an eagle three!.19 points for the back nine gave him 40 overall and his low section prize. Best of the high men was Marty Logue with another 40 pointer. A birdie three at the opening hole was tempered by a couple of no scores and gave Marty a modest 18 points for the nine. A single pointer at thirteen was his last slip and he kept his game going to pick up another 22 points to clinch his prize. Best gross score for the day went to Ansley Stewart for his level par 72. Again the first fell t a birdie, as did eight, but there was an occasional one pointer to hold the three handicapper back to be out in 37. Ansley scored two twos at the par threes on the return leg and also added a birdie four at fourteen to add just 35 shots to his overall of 72.
