The 18-hole par-70, 6,125 years, moorland course at Shotts Golf Club has recently undergone extensive drainage work. Four new tees and two new greens have been built over the past five years and we are committed to ensuring that the course is maintained in excellent condition. Originally the initiative of the Reverend R.W. Rutherford and some other notable local gentlemen, the idea of starting a golf club was discussed at a public meeting on Friday, 13th December 1895. Until 1904, the course was situated on farmland. A 9-hole course was then developed on a new site on the south side of the railway - close to the station. In 1922, the club moved to a piec e of land at Blairhead where course designer and golf profesional David Adams laid out the original 18-hole course. Subsequently, in November 1936, for a fee of ten guineas the renowned course architect James Braid drew up a blueprint which led to further improvements over the following 13 years. In the autumn of 1964, a new 16th green was introduced - together with further improvements to the 6th and 13th greens. These developments, including a programme of tree planting, have contributed greatly to the excellent modern course which displays great character and charm. The 409 yards, 4th hole (devil's elbow) has been voted one of the top holes in Scottish golf
