Ballinrobe Golf Club sprawls across the 300 acres of the Cloonacastle Estate, which has a history that dates back to 1238. It moved to the estate in 1995 when the estate celebrated its centennial, making the golf course relatively new but it has a much older feel thanks to the mature trees and the old castle ruins dotted throughout. The 250-year old estate house, some of the original farm buildings, and the abundant stone walls were also incorporated into the course giving it a rustic charm that is usually lacking in newer courses. Eddie Hackett designed the layout, which has received a loyal following amongst top players including Padraig Harrington who claims Ballinrobe is where he won his first tournament. There are many interesting holes, including three par 5s on the front nine on which to make score. Lakes come into play on seven holes. Ballinrobe Golf Club's back nine hole opens with the impressive 10th, the club's signature hole due to its location next to a tower house that dates back to the 13th century.
